Using Start Page: Configuring your Site Settings

Your Site Settings let you control four basic sets of preferences:

Basic Properties

There are three Basic Properties that you can configure on this page:

  1. Site Name
  2. Description
  3. Time Zone

1. Site Name

This is the name of your Site.  It will appear on your Start Page, and possibly on your Site itself if you use one of our default templates.

2. Description

This is a brief description of your site.  It will also appear on your Site pages if you use one of our defaulte templates.

3. Time Zone

The time and date of each entry will vary according to what time zone you are in.  WebCrimson lets you set your time zone from a wide range of standard options.  The default time zone is Eastern Standard Time, although you can easily change that to your preferred timezone.

Once you've selected your time zone, you'll have the option to automatically adjust for Daylight Savings time.  If you are in an area that uses Daylight Savings (or "Summer") times, check the box and we will automatically make adjustments for you.

Content Approval

WebCrimson has a powerful Content Approval feature which lets Site Owners and Administrators control whether or not to approve each publish to the website.

There are two main Approval Settings:

Approval Setting

  • Automatic - All new content automatically approved for publication upon submission
  • Manual - All new content must be approved by a site Administrator before publication

Please note that when change your approval settings from "Manual" to "Automatic", any items in your approval queue will automatically be approved.

Images

Location

WebCrimson lets you use pulldowns to set the default location for images that users upload to your website.  You can choose an existing folder to be the default location, or even add new folders (nesting them below an existing folder).

WebCrimson lets users override this default location for images, from inside a particular database.  If you'd like to prevent users from overriding the default image location, you can check the box in front of "Use this location for all images".

Max Size

You can also set a limit for the maximum size of an image uploaded.

WebCrimson offers two options for setting a maximum size:

  • No restrictions
  • Limit uploads to ___ KB

Just choose the option you prefer.  If you set a limit to the maximum size, don't forget to specify the maximum allowed size of an image file (in kilobytes).

If you set a restriction and a users exceeds it, they will get a message that they've uploaded an image that is too large.

Files

File uploads work exactly like Image uploads.
