WEBCRIMSON SUPPORT

Key Concepts

WebCrimson lets you easily create and update websites (including weblogs and webzines!) using our free browser-based software.

First, a little background on how WebCrimson works:

  1. NO SOFTWARE INSTALL
    • You can access our updating software at novelbooksinc.com, so there's no need to install software

  2. WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING WEBSITE
    • When you publish an update, WebCrimson creates webpages customized to your designs... and sends the files to your site (using a technology called FTP).

  3. FREE HOSTING
    • If you don't have an existing website, we will give you banner-free hosting at one of our free hosting sites (e.g. username.crimsonblog.com)

What makes WebCrimson different from other software out there?

There are three really big ideas that we're most excited about

  1. WYSIWYG editing in the browser
  2. Updating of more than just blogs and zines
  3. Advanced features like content approval queue and permission levels

1. WYSIWYG editing in the browser

WebCrimson has a built-in editor which lets you edit text without having to learn HTML.

Anyone that's used a word processor should have no problem using WebCrimson's editor.  You can see screenshots (and read more) about our editor here.

2. Updating of more than just blogs and zines

WebCrimson lets you create and update lots of differents types of pages, including:

  • Web Pages
  • Press Releases
  • Media Mentions
  • Book Review Sites
  • Music Review Sites
  • FAQs
  • Job Listings
  • Product Descriptions

We've built it so that you can get started with a WebCrimson blog or zine... and as you get used to the system, start to use it for your other content management needs.

3. Advanced features like content approval queue and permission levels

Permissions Levels

There are multiple levels of user permissions for the site. (You can read more detail on permissions here)

You can give some users access only to the content, other users access only to the design, and still other users access to both.  You can also create different permissions levels for site Administrators, who have further rights to approve content and configure site settings.

Content Approval Queue

Content isn't always automatically published to the site.

WebCrimson makes it possible to control what content is published and what is not, through a powerful feature called the Content Approval Queue.

If the Approval Queue is on, then published content will hit the Queue before it's submitted for publication:

This gives the Owner and Administrators of the site an opportunity to OK the content before it goes live.
