Getting Started with CrimsonBlog.com: The CrimsonBlog Start Wizard
When you go to CrimsonBlog.com to create weblog Starter Site, you'll see two options on the frontpage:
- Chose the first option and we'll host a free blog for you at yourname.crimsonblog.com
- Choose the second option and we'll FTP your blog for you to your existing webhost
Once you choose which Starter Site you'd like, the Start Wizard takes over with some easy questions in a four-step process:
- Sign into WebCrimson Account
- Input Descriptive Info
- Choose Design
- Input Hosting Info
1. Sign into WebCrimson Account
WebCrimson accounts are tied to your email address, so type in your email address to sign in.
After you've done that, WebCrimson will ask for your password.
- If you're a returning user, just type in your password and you'll continue to the next step.
- If you're a new user, please type in your password twice (so we make sure we have it right) and click the checkbox to agree to our Terms of Use.
2. Input Descriptive Info
This step asks for basic site information: mainly, your Site Name and Description.
Be careful here: if you're using our default templates, the Site Name and Description will appear on your weblog.
3. Choose Design
Step three lets you choose your blog design, from a portfolio of pre-designed templates that we've built for you.
When you've found a design you like, just click on the button next to it and hit Continue to go to the next step.
4. Input Hosting Info
Step Four will ask you to input your hosting information.
The exact questions it asks will depend on which of the two hosting options you selected:
Free Hosting
Your blog will live at subdomain.crimsonblog.com.
Once you pick a unique subdomain, you can hit continue to go on to the next step. If your chosen subdomain is already in use, WebCrimson will let you know and ask for another subdomain.
Your own Hosting
If you're hosting you're own blog, you'll want to have all of your FTP information on hand.
There are three required fields you'll have to input:
- FTP Server Name
- Your FTP Username
- Your FTP Password
In addition, there are four optional fields:
- FTP default port
- FTP root path
- FTP mode
- Base URL
You can see more detail on each of these fields here.
If you don't have this information on you, that's ok: just select the option to "Input all your FTP info later".
Now the Start Wizard should put you straignt into the WebCrimson Editing Interface, straight to the "Add Entry" page so you can type in your very first blog entry
Once you hit publish, WebCrimson will take all of the information from this four-step Start Wizard and create your weblog!
