Using Editing Interface: Choosing a Template
There are two types of Templates in WebCrimson:
- Page Templates
- Index Templates
Which template should you use? A quick rule of thumb:
- A Page Template displays each entry on its own page. One Page = One Entry.
- An Index Template displays multiple entries on a single page. One Page = Multiple Entries.
Page Templates
A few examples of when to use a Page Template:
Articles or Essays: If you're generating an Article or an Essay, you'll want to use a Page Template:

Press Releases: If you're generating Press Releases, you'll want to use a Page Template to generate each release:

In both cases, each Entry gets it own Page (One Page = One Entry).
Index Templates
Keep in mind the golden rule for Index templates: they display multiple entries on a single page. One Page = Multiple Entries.
Article Index: Remember those Articles we generated above with a Page Template? We might want an Article Index listing each of the Articles, with a hyperlink to each one so that a reader can easily click their way over to an article that looks interesting.
This is an Index Template instead of a Page Template, because it pulls from multiple entries on a single page:

Press Release Index: We'll also need to display multiple entries on a single page to pull of a Press Release Index:

Weblog: The increasingly popular Weblog format also display multiple entries on a single page, making it an ideal candidate for an Index Template:
