Adding Links in the WebCrimson Editor

Internet Explorer Browsers on a PC

Microsoft technology has made it possible for us to offer "WYSIWYG Edit Mode", an editing interface that lets you format text without having to learn HTML.

ADDING A NEW LINK

  1. To create a hyperlink, just select the text you want to turn into a link and click "Add Link".
  2. A window will pop up asking you to "Enter link location".
  3. Just type in the URL where you want to send anyone who clicks on your link and click "OK".
  4. Your new hyperlink will appear in your editing window.

EDITING AN EXISTING LINK

  1. To edit the link, carefully select the full text of your hyperlink and click "Add Link" again.
    • Note: if you select only part of your hyperlink, you will end up editing only that part. If you select extra text that is not part of your hyperlink, you will end up creating a totally new hyperlink that replaces your existing one
  2. After you click "Add Link" again, the URL of your hyperlink should appear in the little pop-up window.
  3. Just edit it, click "OK", and your edited hyperlink will appear in your editing window.

If you are comfortable using HTML, you can also click to "Edit HTML" and edit your links directly using HTML.

Other Browsers

Netscape and Mac browsers do not support the Document Object Model (DOM), the web standard that enables WYSIWYG editing.

Mozilla and Opera also fall short on this count.  As soon as any of these browsers offer support for these web standards, we will offer WYSIWYG editing for that browser.

WebCrimson is committed to supporting all browsers, especially those that embrace standards like the DOM.
