Adding Images in the WebCrimson Editor

We've made it point-and-click easy to add images to any entry.

SELECTING AN IMAGE

When you click the "Add Image" link, a little window will pop up with three options:

  1. Upload an image from your computer
  2. Select an image you've already uploaded
  3. Use an image from a remote site

FORMATTING THE IMAGE

Once you've selected an image, you'll also have the option to choose some formatting options.

Let's take a look at the "Add Image" popup that lets you select your image and choose your formatting options:

SELECTING AN IMAGE

First, you'll have to select the image you want.  You'll have three options here:

1. Upload an image from your computer

If you'd like to upload an image from your computer, you can do so in just three steps:

  1. Click on the silver Browse button
  2. Find and click once on the image you'd like to upload
  3. Click on Open to upload the image

The image should upload.

2. Select an image you've already uploaded

If you've already uploaded an image that you'd like to use again, you can use it without having to re-upload it.

Just select the name of the image from the list of images

3. Use an image from a remote site

If you'd like to use an image from another site, you can just type in the URL of that image.

  1. First you need to find the URL of the image
  2. Then type it into the "Add Image" popup

Finding the URL of an image

  • If you use Internet Explorer on a PC:
    • Right click on the image and select "Properties". A pop up window should appear that contains the URL of your image (next to the "Address" or "URL" heading)
  • If you use Netscape on a PC:
    • Right click on the image and select "View Image". You should be taken to a web page that shows only your image. The URL of that page (in the address bar of your browser) is the URL of your image.
  • If you use a Mac:
    • Click and hold on the image, then choose "Open Image in New Window". You should be taken to a web page that shows only your image. The URL of that page (in the address bar of your browser) is the URL of your image.

Typing in the URL of the Image

Once you've found the URL, go ahead and type it into the "Add Image" popup.  Once you hit "submit" in the image popup, the image will automatically appear in your editing window.

Please note: adding images from a "remote" web site (a process called "external linking") may be prohibited under the terms and conditions of the remote site where the image is hosted. We ask that you please check and abide by the terms of any remote site before linking to images on that site.

FORMATTING THE IMAGE

Now that you've selected your image, WebCrimson gives you three options to format it:

  • Text Wrapping
    • Lets you make the text of your entry flow around the image.
  • Image Resizing
    • Lets you change the dimensions of the image to make it appear larger or smaller on your screen
  • Optimize for Web
    • Optimizes your image according to the following rules:
      • If your original image is smaller than 100 kb, nothing happens to it. Your original image file is uploaded unchanged.
      • If your original image is larger than 100 kb, WebCrimson will automatically optimize it for Web display. The optimization process is designed to create a smaller file that loads more quickly without compromising the quality of the original image.

You can choose any one of these formatting options, or even combine them - applying multiple formatting options to a single image.

FINAL STEPS

Once you've selected the image and chosen your formatting options, you're almost done!

Go ahead and hit hit "submit" in the image popup.  Your image will automatically appear in your editing window, formatted just like you've chosen.
